ENISA publishes eUICC specification and requests feedback

Embedded SIMs in focus. ENISA has published certification specifications for eUICC and invites stakeholders to submit feedback in a public consultation.

An eUICC is an embedded security element in mobile devices that can store one or more mobile subscriptions. Unlike a traditional SIM card, it is permanently integrated into the device and enables mobile subscriptions to be managed and switched digitally. Certification of this technology matters for several reasons: it aims to build consumer and industry trust in the technology, it can support certification of the European digital identity, and it forms part of broader EU efforts to improve security in 5G networks.

ENISA is therefore asking for feedback on this specification. Interested parties can take part in the public consultation until 26 August 2024.

The full specification is available here, and participation in the consultation is possible here.
